The Ionian Islands are so named because they are located in the Ionian Sea. In Greece they are also called Eptanisa ( Seven Islands )
From north to south the best known islands are : Corfu, Paxos, Lefkada, Meganisi, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Zakynthos (Zante), Kythira.
